Production system for open-source hardware. Open-source and economic efficiency are not mutually exclusive. To illustrate this, we have designed a conventional industrial product—a vacuum cleaner—that can be manufactured at three different levels of complexity. Both private and commercial actors can produce the OpenCyclone. The blueprints are available in three stages—DIY, Advanced, and Professional—and can be downloaded from os-system.eu.
